Shanelle Sorro is a Technical Vocational High School graduate. She is a first-year student at the University of Manitoba aiming for the School of Dental Hygiene. She wants to be a dental hygienist to care for her patients and help our communities live healthier lives.
Shanelle has worked hard ever since her pre-school days. She believes she has to earn a university degree to be successful in life. She is aware of all the financial requirements of getting to her goal. As a result, she worries a lot about how she could make it until the end.
For Shanelle, the Westland Foundation scholarship has helped her gain the confidence she needed at the university. She says, “It’s comforting to know that someone has faith in me. It reminds me to don’t give up. It helps me to focus my energies on my studies than my financial troubles.”
